Since the age of 10, surfing and skateboarding have always been my favourite past times. After pursuing a few random jobs I decided to live in Cornwall and study Marine Leisure. I left with a fair understanding of the water sports industry but still without a clue what I wanted to do.

Moving back from Cornwall to Shoreham drove me a little barmy due to the lack of decent waves in the summer months and set me thinking about a different sport. I'd remembered seeing a picture of someone surfing with a kite as a promotional shot and figured I’d give it a go.

It seemed at the same time a few other people around the world had the same idea and before I knew it I was out in Hawaii witnessing the first ever world kitesurfing championships. I didn't compete myself but learnt a lot about the direction this sport was heading.
I then went on to New Zealand and Oz where I really got to grips with the sport, entered their national competitions and made the decision to set up a kitesurfing school when I returned home.

So in 2000 the Sussex Kitesurfing Centre was born and was run out of my bungalow on the beach for the first year. In 2001 I acquired the old run down bus shelter on Beach Green, Shoreham Beach and converted it into the base for the school which that year proved to be extremely popular. Over the following 3 years the sport world wide seemed to be dominating most coast lines, with brands putting a lot into R & D making equipment very user friendly, safe, stylish and efficient.

We started selling kitesurfing, surfing and skateboarding hardware, and because we knew the sports and kit inside out customers trusted our advice and started to make the retail side of the business a worthy project. This year due to expanding business and an ever increasing product range I realized the need for larger premises.

Shoreham Beach was were I wanted to stay and so for the last half of this summer we have been setting up our new store in Ferry Road called STORMRIDERS.

It’s more of a full surf store than the last place. We're selling kit for all the sports we do, surf clothing and we have a coffee and fresh juice bar at the back in the plasma chill out lounge. I planned this place on how I always thought a surf store should be; stylish, comfortable, great clothing and the best equipment and with staff that have the experience to offer the right advice.

We kinda think we’ve achieved all of that and are now ready to open so next time your gonna hit the shops or surf the web or the waves check us out, and I guarantee you’ll like what you see!
